SBI Women in Science Award

Female scientists are under-represented in global research. There is a need for initiatives to increase their opportunities and participation and SBI is delighted to announce an award conceptualized to this end. The SBI Women in Science Award highlights major contributions by Brazilian female scientists to research in Immunology. SBI recognizes that a substantial social and academic effort is required to overcome the many barriers women face to entry and progress in research; this award is just one small contribution. We look forward to identifying outstanding individuals deserving of this award, celebrating their achievements, and sharing their stories. From 2019 on, we will reward each year the accomplishments of one woman working in Immunology.

Candidates must be Brazilian, female or self-identified female members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Applicants must hold a Ph.D degree and a permanent position in a Superior Education Institution, Research Institution or Industry and significantly contributed to research in Immunology by advancing our understanding of a particular discipline over the years. In addition to impactful  scientific discoveries, as reflected in publications, posters, and conference presentations, nominees should also have a solid track regarding leadership, tutoring, and mentoring. The award is not meant to be for lifetime achievements. The awardee will be chosen by a Research Committee assigned by the SBI Scientific Committee and announced in September at the Annual SBI Congress.
